● Follow discharge guidelines for hospitalized and post-surgery patients and treatment plan guidelines for clients to ensure proper patient treatment in the home environment including client follow up post hospitalization.
● Train and supervise team members who handle and care for animals; as needed.
● Deal with clients and employees in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact and professionalism.
● Provide guidance and leadership to the healthcare team that will positively influence the level of care and service provided to the clients and patients of PetMedic Hospitals.

Essential Job Functions:
• Monitor the condition of animals in the shelter and address any conditions which would warrant care, including daily rounds in the shelter and clinic.
• Perform physical exams on animals upon intake and as needed, and diagnose and prescribe treatment for sick and injured animals in the shelter.
• Perform high-volume spay/neuter surgeries and additional surgery as necessary on shelter animals. Additional surgeries include but are not limited to dentistry, enucleations, exploratory laparotomies, orthopedics, tumor removal, amputations, etc.
• Provide emergency medical care as needed, including but not limited to IV catheter placement, emergency surgery, etc.
• Provide leadership, direction, guidance and training for veterinary technicians
and other support staff.
• Maintain comprehensive computerized medical records for medical management and surveillance of illness within the shelter.
• Assist with coordination and supervision of NHS-sponsored veterinary clinics,
e.g., low cost spay/neuter and vaccination of public animals and free roaming cats.
• Adhere to a comprehensive health care program with the following components - environmental sanitation, record-keeping, disease surveillance, physical examinations, vaccination, parasite control, disease testing, disease treatment, surgery, nutrition, outbreak response, and environmental enrichment for animals in the shelter and in foster homes.
• Educate staff and volunteers regarding animal disease.
• Promote a caring attitude toward all animals and treat them humanely and compassionately at all times, regardless of circumstances, including those that are sick, injured, feral or aggressive.
• Treat people (staff, volunteers, and the public) with respect and courtesy.
• Foster a spirit of teamwork and perform duties in a manner that assists NHS in the achievement of its goals and encourages community support of its work.
• Work cooperatively with managers and other key staff.
• Participate in collaborative programs with the Truckee Meadows Veterinary Technician Program.

• Responsible for medical examinations, care, monitoring, and health of domestic animals in the care of the SPCA of Northern Nevada, including foster animals.
• Performs spay/neuter and other surgeries, dentals, etc. and manages other veterinarians, assistants, technicians, etc., in this effort.
• Develops and manages medicine protocols

• Works collaboratively with operations manager and staff on census management, animal routing issues and health and medical decisions regarding the animals
• Oversees vaccine clinic operations, in-house and off-site.
• As a part of the SpayNevada Mobile Veterinary Program, Veterinarian must have the ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced mobile style clinic in a tight space, and operating in a variety of locations as determined by Executive Director.
• Supervise veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants and volunteer personnel.
• Oversee set-up and breakdown of transported medical equipment and supplies.
• Examine animal's pre-op to determine their ability to undergo surgery.
• Perform an average of 20 - 25 high quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgical procedures per clinic day (approximately 5-7-minute cat spays and 12-15-minute dog spays) using techniques as defined by organization.

Department Management
• Assists clinic manger in managing veterinary service's budget, providing financial analysis, and ensuring accuracy of invoices and statements from medical suppliers
• Assists clinic manager with training of veterinary staff and volunteers, pursues educational opportunities for staff
• Actively participates as a member of the management team; attends applicable meetings.
• Makes arrangements for coverage for vacation, sick relief, etc.
• Follows all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment
• Ensures adequate inventory of supplies, medications and all drugs, including DEA-regulated substances.
